Ralph Hanna - Class Of 1921

  Ralph E. Hanna, 209 S. Wilson St., Delphi, attorney for City of Delphi for 17 years, died Sunday, March 8, 1981, at Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis.
  Born September 10, 1902, in Delphi, he was the son of John and Elizabeth Whistler Hanna.  His marriage on July 14, 1932, was to Mary Louise Gerard.  He was a member of Delphi Christian Church.
  A graduate of Delphi High School, he received an A.B. degree from Indiana University in 1925 and two years later received his law degree from Indiana University.
  He first practiced law with his father in Delphi for five years, then served four years as state assistant attorney general.  In 1937 he was appointed Counsellor of the Public Service Commission by Governor Earl Townsend.  He entered private law practice again and was with the firm of Calvert & Hanna at Lafayette until 1941.
  In September 1942, he entered the service as Captain in the Army of World War II and was discharged as a Lieutenant Colonel.  After service he entered private law practice January 1946 in Delphi with his brother, Robert L. Hanna, who is now deceased.  He served as city attorney for the city of Delphi for 17 years, through 1980.
  He was a member of Acacia social fraternity, Phi Delta Phi honorary journalism fraternity, Scabbard an & Blade, honorary military fraternity, and Masonic Lodge.
  Mr. Hanna was awarded during his Army Service the American Theater ribbon; Asiatic Pacific Theater ribbon with three campaign stars; Philippine Liberation ribbon with one bronze star, victory ribbon and bronze star medal.
  Surviving with the wife are a son, Gerard (Jerry) Hanna of Indianapolis; one daughter, Mrs. James "Pat" (Sharon) O'Farrell, Rt. 1, Delphi; one brother, Dr. Roger Hanna of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; and four grandchilren.  One brother is deceased.
  Services were today, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. at Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. Ambrose Ziegler officiating.  Burial was in Masonic Cemetery at Delphi.
