Robert Wood - Class Of 1921

Robert W. Wood, 83, of 303 West Front Street, Delphi, died Tuesday, December 24, 1985, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, where he had been a patient for a week. Mr. Wood had been in failing health for a year. Mr. Wood was born in Delphi on December 8, 1902, and he graduated from Delphi High School in 1921. He was married on October 27, 1934, to Faye Wright in Warsaw; she survives. Mr. Wood was associated with the Carroll County Telephone Company for many years, and had served as the manager and treasurer of that companv prior to his retirement in 1971. After his retirement from the phone company, he and his wife were appointed as Carroll County court bailiffs by the late Judge Watson McCormick. They both retired from this position on July 31, 1983. Mr Wood was a member and former treasurer ot the Delphi United Methodist Church; a life member of Mount Olive Masonic Lodge, Delphi; a member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis; and a former member of the Delphi Rotary Club. Mr. Wood and his wife spent endless hours restoring old homes in Delphi, and had taken special pride in the restoration of their home on West Front Street. Mr. Wood and his wife raised two great-nephews in their home, Stephen R. Wood, Route 2, Delphi; and Thomas J. Wood of Dallas, Texas, and both also survive with his spouse. Services were held in Delphi on Friday, December 27, 1985, the Rev. Dr. Ellwood Smith officiating. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Delphi United Methodist Church.
