Clara McDowell (Sims) - Class Of 1922

Clara J. McDowell Sims, 96, died at 10:15 PM Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in Regency Place of Lafayette. She was born Sept. 10, 1904, in Delphi, was a lifelong Carroll County resident, and had been a Delphi resident before moving to Regency Place 14 months ago. She was a Delphi High School graduate and received nurse's training from Lafayette Home Hospital. For many years, Mrs. Sims was a registered nurse in Logansport at Memorial and St. Joseph hospitals. She had also been a private duty nurse in Carroll County many years for various families. She attended Delphi United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was a member of Deer Creek Home Demonstration Club and Chorus, Delphi, American Legion Auxiliary, served as secretary of the Old Settlers Association for many years served as secretary of the Delphi Historical Association. She also enjoyed gardening and working outdoors. In 1928, she married Paul Sims in South Bend, and he died in November 1946. Surviving is a daughter, Irene Smith (husband Larry) of Lafayette. Graveside service Jan. 31 at IOOF Cemetery, Delphi, the Rev. Mark Ellcessor officiating.
