James Obear

 

James H. Obear, 83, formerly of Delphi, died Oct. 21, 1989, in Hoosier Village Retirement Center, Zionsville.
  Born Nov. 25, 1905, in Delphi, he was the son of James O. and Emma Jackson Obear.
  He graduated from DePauw University in 1927 with a degree in political science.  He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa scholastic honorary and Delta Chi social fraternity.
  He lived in Indianapolis for over 40 years.  He and his wife also maintained a home on Lake Freeman since 1938.
  He was general sales manager of Enos Coal Mining Co., for 43 years before retiring in 1970.
  He was a member of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church; Mystic Tie Lodge; Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis; and a past president and life member of Indianapolis Downtown Optimist Club.  He also was past director of the Carroll County Abstract Company.
  Surviving with his wife, the former Mary Asenith Morrison, are two daughters; Patricia A. Elvart and Mary L. MacDougall; a son, James J. Obear; a brother, George W. Obear of Delphi; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
  Services and burial were Tuesday in Indianapolis.
