John Allen Best, 91, Sherman, Texas, died Dec. 21, 1997, in Wilson N. Jones Hospital, Sherman. He was born Sept. 8, 1906, in Delphi, to John Abram and Emma Rippeteau Best. He was married Oct. 1, 1932 in Detroit, Mich., to Katherine Stauffer, who survives. He was a purchasing agent for Lucey Products Oil Well Supply of Tulsa, Okla. He was a member of Gayale Avenue Presbyterian Church, Tulsa, and Rolling Hills Country Club in Tulsa. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a graduate of DePaul University in Greencastle. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Margaret Vanwagoner of Anna, Texas, and Kathy Bynum of Carrollton, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Services were Tuesday in McKinney, Texas.
