Clifford Atkinson - Class Of 1917

Clifford Atkinson, 25 years old, a farmer of Yeoman, was instantly killed, and George Medley, a farmer of east of Chalmers, was injured, Saturday when the Ford coupe in which they were riding, was struck by northbound Monon passenger train No. 32. The accident occurred at the Monon crossing in Yeoman, and the two men were driving west at the time. Clifford Atkinson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Atkinson, Both he and his wife, Mrs. Ethel Hornbeck Atkinson, are graduates of the Delphi High School. He was a soldier in the World War, having served in Battery C, 137th F. A. He was a happy, genial, enthusiastic young man, and he will be greatly missed. He leaves his parents, his wife and four months old daughter, a sister, Mrs. Bessie Greenlee, and a brother, Raymond. The funeral was held from the M. E. church in Yeoman, Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock and interment was made in the Yeoman cemetery. Members of the Harry Bohannon post, American Legion, of Delphi, escorted the body from the home to the M. E. church in Yeoman, where Rev. Evers, local pastor, and R. O. Kimberlin, of Delphi, had charge of the services. The Legionnaires were pall bearers. The body was taken to the Yeoman cemetery, where the American Legion had charge of the ceremonies. A salute was fired and taps were sounded after the body was lowered into the grave.
