Maud Powell (Newell) - Class Of 1917

Mrs. Maude Newell, 65, route 4, Delphi, died at 8 a.m. Saturday Feb. 1, 1964 in Home Hospital, Lafayette. She had been ill for six weeks. The wife of Earl B. Newell, she had been a life resident of this community. She was born October 2, 1898, in Carroll County to John Edward and Lenna May Craig Powell. Mrs. Newell was a graduate of Indiana State College and had been a school teacher in the Delphi system until her marriage March 28, 1923. She was a member of Delphi Presbyterian Church, the Eastern Star, the Deer Creek Home Demonstration Club and the Delphi Woman’s Club. She is survived by her husband; a son, Kenneth P. Newell, route 4; Delphi; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy M. Mills, route 1, Delphi, and Mrs. June E. Million, route 4, Monticello; a brother, Earl P. Powell, route 4, Delphi, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at the Cornell Funeral Home with the Rev. James A. Rankin officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
