ELIZABETH R. BEST - CLASS OF 1918 - DELPHI TEACHER
 
  Elizabeth R. Best, 86, of Delphi, died at 5:10 a.m. Sept. 2, 1987 in St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi.  She had been in ill health the past six months.
  Born Oct. 15, 1900 in Delphi, she was the daughter of John A. and Emma (Rippetoe) Best.
  She was a 1918 graduate of Delphi High School and a 1922 graduate o DePauw University in Greencastle.  She also did graduate work at the University of Illinois and Ohio State University.
  A retired English literature teacher, she formerly taught at Delphi High School and Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C.  She returned to Delphi 15 years ago.
  She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, Theta Sigma Phi, and Mortar Board; past president of Carroll County Old Settlers, and a former member of Delphi Library Board and the Readers Club.
  Surviving is a brother, John A. Best of Carrollton, Texas.
  Memorial contributions may be made to the Delphi Public Library or SPCA.  Horn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Private family services were held, with burial in Masonic Cemetery.
