Lucille Haynes - Class Of 1918

Miss Lucille Haynes, 40, member of a prominent local family, died at her home in South Delphi at 7 p.m. Wednesday night following a successful suicide attempt. Dr. Hubert Gros, Carroll county coroner, who was called to the home, said Miss Haynes had evidently taken poison. Miss Haynes suffered a complete nervous collapse about a year ago and has been ill since. Despondency over her continued ill health is believed responsible for the act. Born in Delphi on March 18, 1900, Miss Haynes was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burnside Haynes. She graduated from the local high school in 1918 and was for a time employed in the Delphi Citizen office. She later accepted employment with the law firm of Hanna and Hall and, following the death of John Hanna and Gus Hall, was stenographer for the firm of Hanna and Hanna, where she worked until ill health forced her to resign. Her father is a former Carroll county recorder. She was a member of the Delphi Methodist church. Her mother died about two years ago. Surviving are the father and a sister, Mrs. John Thompson of Delphi. Private funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Blythe and Sons funeral home with the Rev. Wilbur V. Day officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic cemetery.
