Joseph Erb

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Rogers-Myers chapel in Lafayette for Joseph Robert Erb, 60, of Buck Creek, former right eminent grand commander of the Grand Commandery, Knights Templar of Indianapolis. The Reverend Dr. Herman Carson and Reverend O. P. Manker officiated and interment was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. He died Wednesday morning in Lafayette Home hospital, where he had been a surgical patient. Born in Madison township, Carroll county, he attended grade school there and was graduated from Delphi high school. He attended Manchester college. He was a member of the Buck Creek Methodist Church. For 30 years he had been employed by the Colonial Oil Co., of which he was district supervisor. He was married to Lena Roadruck in 1924. Mr. Erb was made a Master Mason on Transitville lodge No. 425 F & A M of Buck Creek in July of 1929. serving as its worshipful master in 1932. He also held membership in al the York Rite bodies at Lafayette and served as commander of Lafayette Commandery No. 3 in 1944. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, and was a noble of the Murat Shrine Temple; a charter member of the Tippecanoe Past Masters Association, and OES chapter No. 347, Buck Creek. As a member of Knights Companion of St. Basil Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine and of St. Andrew Tabernacle No. 35, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, he was appointed grand representative of the Grand Chapter R.A.M. of Ohio early in 1960. Surviving with the widow are, four sisters: Mrs. Thelma McCoy and Mrs. Mary Holst, both of Lafayette; Mrs. Loda Martin, of Camden, and Mrs. Betty Janz, of Delphi.
