Carrie Dock (Groninger) - Class Of 1911

One of the most terrible tragedies that has happened in this vicinity in many years was that which took the lives of three members of a well known and highly respected family last Sunday morning, when Mrs. Carrie Groninger, age 32 was instantly killed; Marie Griminger, 5, a daughter, was fatally injured; Theodore Dock, father of Mrs. Groninger, was fatally injured, and Alice Gronlnger, 3, another daughter was seriously injured, in a grade crossing crash on the Indiana Service Corporation line at the Loy crossing, three miles east of Delphi. Mrs. Groninger, her children and her father were enroute from Mr. Dock's home to the Lutheran Sunday school at Camden. Mrs. Groninger was driving the automobile and it is thought she was devoting more attention to the slippery condition of the road than to the fact she was approaching the crossing. It was also the first time she had driven the dodge sedan. The heavy traction car, running late, struck the light automobile broad side, and the bodies of the occupants were hurled in several directions. Mrs. Groninger was dead when people from the traction car reached her side. The injured were rushed to St. Joseph hospital at Logansport, where Mr. Dock died at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon and little Ruth Marie Groninger died at 5:30 o'clock that evening. Alice Groninger, the 8-year old child, has both legs fractured. She is hurt internally and it is thought she may have a fractured skull. There is only a slight chance for her recovery. Mrs. Groninger was the wife of Everett Groninger, who is confined in the Indiana Hospital at Newcastle. She has been making her home with her father for some time. Mr. Dock was a wealthy and highly respected farmer of Carroll county and resided two and one-half miles east of Delphi, near the scene of the fatal acddent. He is survived by the following, children, who are also the brothers and sisters of Mrs. Groninger; Arthur, of Lafayette; William, of Chicago; Louis, residing at home, and Mrs. Bert Shriner, of Rossville. Mr. Dock is also survived by the following sisters and brother: Mrs. Sarah Culler, of Delphi; Mrs Perry Schnur, Mrs. Philip Wise. Miss Mina Dock and Edward Dock of Logansport. The bodies of Mr, Dock and Ruth Marie Groninger were taken to the home of Edward Dock in Logansport, and the body of Mrs. Groninger was taken to the Baker funeral home in Camden. Funeral services, which were to have been held Tuesday, were post- poned until Thursday because of the icy condition of the roads. They were held at the Lutheran church in Camden. Rev. Stuckenburg officiating. Burial was in the Nebo Cemetery. Delphi Citizen December 11, 1926
