Carlye Kirkpatrick - Class Of 1912

Carlyle C. "Kirk" Kirkpatrick, 67, well known resident of Delphi, died of a heart attack at the family home on Summit Street Friday evening.  "Kirk" had been in poor health for a number of years but his death came as a shock to the community.

His death came after a valiant struggle with poor health which had necessitated the removal of one of his limbs.  He had regained sufficient strength in recent months to be about with the aid of canes.

For 20 years an employee and foreman at Globe Valve in Delphi, Kirk had retired when his health became poorly.  An avid fisherman and sports enthusiast, he had resided in this community most of his lifetime.

Born near Rockfield, April 10, 1894, he was the son of Alonzo and Orie C. Kirkpatrick.  During World War I, he was with the 852nd Aerial Repair Squadron.  He had long been active in the local American Legion, the Presbyterian church, Masonic Lodge and the Questers Club.  His marriage in 191 was to Ruth Meredity, of Mentone, who is now an employee of the Carroll County Welfare Department.

Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Meredith Jean (Mrs. Richard) Sears of Anderson and Mary Ellen (Mrs. J. Richard) Lundquist of Pensacola, Florida; a brother, Dr. John T. Kirkpatrick of Delphi; four sisters, Mrs. Christy (P.M.) Coleman of Wake Village, Texas; Mrs. Helen (Hubert) Sumrow of Vancouver, Washington; Mrs. Caroline (D. Preston) Calvert of Ft. Myers, Florida; Miss Edna Kirkpatrick, retired Delphi school teacher.

Funeral rites were held Monday afternoon from the Jackson funeral home with Rev. James Wm. Rankin officiating.  Burial was in Masonic Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Delphi American Legion.
