Robert Davidson - Class Of 1913

Although Robert E. Davidson has been a patient in the Veterans Hospital for the past five weeks, his death on Wednesday, August 11, came as a shock to his many friends. “Bob,” as he was familiarly called, was born on the Davidson farm north of Delphi on September 17, 1894, the son of Clark and Mary E. Davidson. He was married April 15, 1930 to Eve Trobaugh of Delphi, and since that time, it has been “Bob and Eve” with their many friends. Together they were interested in Delphi affairs, in the Harry Bohannon Post American Legion, in the Legion Auxiliary, and always gave freely of their talents to make a success of whatever undertaking either one was called upon to sponsor. Robert Davidson served almost ten years as Captain (Adjutant) of the Indiana State Soldiers Home at Lafayette. During that time, his wife, Eve, assisted voluntarily in the entertainment of the women members of the Home . . . Indirectly, perhaps, but to our own knowledge, the appointment of the Rev. Robert Wilburn, Delphi pastor, to the post of Chaplain of the Home, was made possible by the assurance of Robert Davidson, adjutant, that the Rev. Wilburn would serve the Home well, which he did. Robert retired as adjutant three years ago. For one year, Robert Davidson served as auditor of Carroll County; he operated the Haugh Coal and Building Supply Company on Main Street, in Delphi, for thirty-nine years. He was a member of the Delphi Presbyterian Church, of the IOOF, the 40 et 8 of Lafayette, and a past Commander of Harry Bohannon Post No. 75 of the American Legion. Death followed major surgery at the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. He leaves his widow, Eve Trobaugh Davidson, and his sister, Mrs. Maude Davidson Carr of Delphi, and more friends than could ever be counted. We, who write this, know from personal experience that “Bob and Eve” were the first to say “Well Done” for a piece written, or “Thank You So Much” for a card sent them. They were a vital part of the Delphi community, and when the “boys” of the Harry Bohannon Post, American Legion, participate in the last rites at the Cornell Funeral Home in Delphi and at the Pleasant Run Cemetery, north of Delphi, where his body will be laid to rest, and the Flag, which he loved and served is lowered in his memory, we, too, will say “Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of the Lord. Friends may call at the Cornell Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held there Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. James Rankin officiating. Burial in Pleasant Run Cemetery, with members of the American Legion in charge.
