Roy Gilpin - Class Of 1913

Roy Lee Gilpin, 58, an employee of the Kokomo post office, died of a heart attack Thursday, September 10, 1953 at 11 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Gilpin, with another couple, were returning home from attending the Indiana State Fair, when he was fatally stricken as the car was near the Hamilton-Tipton county line. Mr. Gilpin was born September 13, 1895 in Grant County, the son of George and Lilly Gilpin. He was married April 15, 1920 to Ella Baird. Surviving with the widow are his mother, Mrs. Lilly Gilpin; two brothers, Charles Gilpin of Madison, Wisconsin and Ted Gilpin of Lafayette; and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Schnepp of Delphi and Mrs. Don Eckhart of Buck Creek. There are several nieces and nephews. The deceased was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion. He had been an employee of the Kokomo post office department for nearly 30 years. The body is at the Fenn Funeral Home in Kokomo, where funeral rites will be conducted. Burial will be in Bunnell cemetery following the rites at Kokomo on Monday at 2 p.m.
