In Memory

Josephine Boyd (Ulm) - Class Of 1914

Josephine Boyd Ulm, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Boyd, of Delphi, died suddenly Saturday at a hospital in Chula Vista, California.  Although she had been in poor health for the past few years, a letter received in Delphi by her friend, Mrs. Ralph Melin, Monday morning of this week said she was feeling better, that the lower altitude seemed to agree with her and that her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Robert Ulm had a car and was showing her the beauties of California.  The news of her death, therefore, was a shock to Delphi Friends.
Josephine Boyd graduated at Franklin college, was a member of the Tri Delta sorority and is remembered there as one of the most popular girls on the campus.  She was a charter member of Tri Kappa sorority in Delphi.  She majored in French in college and was also a musician of ability.  When there were minstrel shows in Delphi or home talent plays, or more serious services of various kinds Josephine could be depended upon as a most capable accompanist.  In fact, as an accompanist she was unexcelled.  Later Mrs. Ulm taught school and when her health necessitated her giving up teaching she went to Albuquerque to be with her daughter, Mrs. Jane Reser.  When her son, Robert, was called into the service, she went to Chula Vista to be with his wife and son Robert Jr. Mrs. Reser has three children, and these four grandchildren were a delight to Mrs. Ulm.  She also leaves her sister, Frances Boyd Martin, and many friends are Mrs. Melin and Mrs. Walter Gochenour who have kept in close contact with her.
The body was scheduled to arrive by plane in Delphi Wednesday night.  Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of the family.  The body will be at the Jackson funeral home.
