In Memory

George Garrison - Class Of 1915

A memorial service for George E. Garrison will be conducted in the Pittsburg M. E. church, Sunday, December 29, at 2 p. m. Rev. E. P. Day will be in charge of the service and requests the patriotic organizations of the community including the G. A. R., Governor Morton Circle, D. A. R., and War Mothers to co-operate in the service. Private Garrison, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Garrison, was born March 11, 1897, and was killed in action September 12, 1918, in the Battle of St. Mihiel. He was among the first of the Carroll county men to leave for France, and had been “over there” for almost a year. He had been gassed twice before he entered the fatal engagement, and was serving with the First U. S. Engineers, C. F., when he paid the supreme price of citizenship. Private Garrison was a highly respected young man, clean, upright, honest and industrious. He was well liked by all who knew him and in his sacrifice Carroll county will lose a good citizen. In honor of him as one of those who laid down their lives for their country, the memorial services should and will no doubt be well attended tomorrow afternoon. To the family we express our sincere sympathy, and can only say that while we mourn with them in their loss, we also rejoice in the honor that this young man has brought to the community and especially to the family name by his splendid service and in that he made the supreme sacrifice of laying down his life for the common good of humanity.
