Albert Owens - Class Of 1915

Word was received here Friday of the tragic death in Vermillion Bay, Ontario, Canada, of Dr. J. A. Owens, a former resident of Delphi and a graduate of tihe local high school. Dr. Owens and his wife, the former Della Gibson of Remington, had gone to Canada with their daughter, Mary, on a fishing trip and were drowned in Vermillion Bay when their boat capsized. Their daughter made a vain attempt to reach her stricken parents, but her efforts were unsuccessful. Dr. Owens was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Owens and the family at one time resided on the Cartwright farm, just south of the city. From here he moved to Brookston and 21 years ago moved to El Paso, Illinois. Survivors of Dr. Owens are a brother. George, of Detroit; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Gallagher of Seattle. Washington, and Mrs. Mary Douglas of Remington; survivors of Mrs. Owens are three sisters, Mrs. Mary Young and Mrs. Pearl Dreblow of Lafayette and Mrs. Ted Fisher of Battle Ground. Funeral rites for the couple were conducted Tuesday afternoon in El Paso, Illinois. Burial was in the El Paso cemetery.
