Herbert Smith - Class Of 1915

Herbert Hawkins Smith, 85, 105 1/2 E. Main St., Delphi, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1982, at 6:45 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
  He had been a patient there since January 11.  Death was unexpected.
  Born August 18, 1896 in Pittsburg, he was the son of William Chester and Fannie Hawkins Smith.  His marriage at Delphi in 1917 was to Flossie Gay.  He was a lifetime resident of Delphi and was graduated from Delphi High School.
  He had been in the grocery business in Delphi with his father and brother.  He also had been in the appliance and furniture business in Delphi and had been a professional photographer for 50 years.
  Mr. Smith was a member of Delphi United Methodist Church, Mt. Olive Masonic Lodge at Delphi and Scottish Rite and Murat Temple, both of Indianapolis.
  Surviving with the wife are one daughter, Mrs. Robert C. (Alene) Roach, Lafayette; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 
  Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
  Funeral services were at 1 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Ashley officiating.  Burial was in Masonic Cemetery at Delphi.
  Memorial contributions were suggested to be made to the St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.
