John Cartwright - Class Of 1916

John A. Cartwright, 55, Delphi native and a prominent official, in Governor George Craig’s administration, died of a heart attack at noon Tuesday. Mr. Cartwright was to have spoken at the noon session of Rotary in Delphi Tuesday and arrived here about 11:00 to visit his mother, Mrs. George Cartwright in South Delphi. He was stricken with the seizure soon after arriving at the Cartwright home. A doctor was summoned and the stricken man was administered emergency treatment and an ambulance summoned to take him to St. Elizabeth hospital. He died enroute to the hospital. Mr. Cartwright was named director of the Indiana Department of Public Works and Supply soon after Governor Craig took office last January. He was in charge of purchases for the state approximating $100-million annually. On learning of Mr. Cartwright’s death. Governor Craig said:, “The sudden passing of my dear friend, John Cartwright, is a shock from which I shall not soon recover. He was a loyal, friend, tireless in his energies and devoted to the Public service in which he was engaged.
