Ray Calvert - Class Of 1916

Dr. Raymond R. Calvert, 79, Rt. 2, Monticello, Lake Freeman, an eye, ear and nose specialist in Lafayette from 1929 until his retirement in 1976, died Wed., Aug. 23, 1978, in Home Hospital following a brief illness. Born at Colburn, he was the son of William and Linda Rice Calvert. He was married in 1926 at Tipton to Ruth Grishaw who survives. A graduate of Delphi High School, he received a B.S. degree in agriculture from Purdue University in 1920 and his M .D. degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1927. He was a veteran of World War I, serving two years as an Air Corps flight surgeon. Dr. Calvert was a member of the Am erican Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, International College of Surgeons, a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He was a member of Delphi Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine and was past president of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club. At one time he was West Lafayette police commissioner and was a past president and a member of the board of directors of Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Indiana. Services were Saturday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lafayette where he was a member and interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery at Colburn.
