Miss Jennie Blanchard, 50, Red Cross nurse, war worker, daughter of a pioneer family of Carroll county, died late Thursday afternoon at the family home where she was born, about six miles north of here. Miss Blanchard had been in poor health for several years. Born August 27, 1886, Miss Blanchard attended the Delphi schools and was graduated with the class of 1905. She spent the following two years in Arizona. After attending the Kindergarten Training School, affiliated with the University of Cincinnati, and graduating in 1910, she served for several years as a kindergarten director in Cincinnati. Later she became a member of the faculty of the Teachers Training School in Youngstown, Ohio. During the world war she spent a number of months overseas in the service of the Y. M. C. A. It was not until she returned home that she decided to enter upon Red Cross work. Her first work in this field was in Joliet, Illinois. Following her work here, she took special training in social service and devoted the following ten years of her life to the betterment of social conditions. Principally she worked under the supervision of the Red Cross. In 1931 Miss Blanchard entered relief work in Chicago and while there she contracted the illness from which she never recovered. Miss Blanchard was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lou S. Blanchard. She was a member of the Delphi Methodist church. Surviving are the mother; a sister, Miss Josephine Blanchard, both at home; and a brother, Wilbur S. Blanchard of Michigan City. The body was taken to the Blythe and Son funeral home and later removed to the family residence where services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock with the Rev. Wilbur Day of the Delphi Methodist church, officiating. Interment was in the Odd Fellows cemetery here.
