Ida Brown (Allman) - Class Of 1906

Mrs. Ida Allman, 82, of the Yeoman community on Rt. 2, Monticello, died at 8:15 a.m. Monday in White County Memorial Hospital from injuries received in a one-car accident at 5:40 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Allman was a passenger in a car driven by her husband, Arthur Allman, Sheriff James Coghill, who investigated, reported that the car crossed the road and struck a cement abutment on the left side of Patton Blacktop which is County Road 1100-N about 250 feet east of road 850-W. The driver was westbound and apparently blinded by the sun. Both were taken to the hospital in the Sullivan - Lloyd ambulance. Mrs. Allman's head was reportedly thrown through the windshield and she suffered a broken hip, broken wrist and forehead lacerations. Her husband was thrown against the steering wheel and suffered a broken right leg, chest pains and cuts on his right forearm. He was listed in critical condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit. The 1957 vehicle was a total loss. It was the fourth traffic fatality of the year in Carroll County. State Trooper Herb Clear was also at the accident scene. Mrs. Allman was born Sept. 13, 1884, in Indiana, the daughter of William and Susan Gibson Brown. Her marriage to Arthur Allman was in 1918. She was a member of the Burrows Christian Church and had lived most of her life in the county. She had been a school teacher. Surviving with her husband are a stepson, Willard Allman of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Mable Ginther of Burrows and nieces and nephews. Services were Wednesday afternoon at Jackson Funeral Home, Delphi, with the Rev. Leo Clawson officiating. Burial was in Delphi Masonic Cemetery.
