Herman A. Douglass, 61, formerly of Monticello, died Wednesday morning at 6:30 o'clock in Texas. His illness dated back to World War I when he was gassed while doing experimental work for the Army. Born in Delphi, he was the son of Albert A. and Elizabeth Douglass. He attended school in Delphi, and later enrolled at Wabash college. At one time, he was the White county Republican chairman. A resident of Monticello for 40 years, he has served as the city's postmaster. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Monticello Presbyterian church. Until 1945, when he retired, Mr. Douglas was a merchant in Monticello. Surviving are the mother, Logansport; two brothers, Albert, Lafayette, Harry S., Logansport; two sisters, Mrs. F. I. Gardner, Indianapolis, Mrs. Agnes Gilbert, Los Angeles, Calif.; a half sister, Mrs. Si Smith, Norway. The body is being shipped back to Monticello by train. Upon arrival it will be taken to the Prevo funeral home. Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of the body.
