C. Clay Pearson

C. Clay Pearson, 72, former clerk of the Carroll circuit court and former Mayor of Delphi, died Thursday morning in Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, following a heart attack suffered Wednesday night. The Pearson family had resided near Dayton for the past several years. Born March 25, 1886 in Carroll county, he was the son of Augustus and Charity Hoover Pearson. He was married to Nellie Colvin of Delphi in 1917. Pearson was elected clerk of the circuit court in 1916 and served until 1924. He then served as a partner with the late Brice Adams in the Adams and Pearson Drug Store in Delphi. He also served one term as Mayor of Delphi. Mr. Pearson formerly served as secretary of the Peoples Bldg. and Loan of Delphi, and operated an insurance agency here. He was a 32nd degree Mason; a charter member of the Junto and Country Clubs of Delphi, and a member of the Presbyterian church. Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Carolyn Hitchcock, of Dayton; a sister, Mrs. Ella Jones of north of Delphi; a brother, Harry of Logansport. Rites were held Sunday from the Jackson funeral home with Rev. James Wm. Rankin officiating. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery.
