Delphi Journal July 22, 1926 LIEUT. JAMES COOPER WADDELL IS NAMED TO WAR ON U.S. BREWERIES New York, July 17, - Word of the appointment of a military ex-army officer to war on illegal breweries in the campaign of Brig. Gen. Lincoln C. Andrews to dry up the United States was received here yesterday. The new official whose title will be supervisor of brewery control, is Lieut. Col. James Cooper Waddell U.S.A. retired. Col. Waddell was in Washington today to receive his appointment. Before leaving he said he intended to "roll up his sleeves and plunge in." He referred to the force of men under him as his "shock troops". Col. Waddell was born in Frankfort Ind., in 1889. He was appointed to West Point by Congressman C. B. Landis, from Delphi, and was graduated in 1914. After retiring from the army in 1920 he became an importer in New York.
