Eva Smock (Braden) - Class Of 1910

  Eva I. Braden, 88, Long Beach, Calif., died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1981, at 1 a.m. of a heart attack.
  Born Oct. 5, 1892, in Radnor, her parents were James C. and Martha L. Hatfield Smock.  In 1940 she married Dr. Bayard B. Braden who died in 1958.
  Educated in Delphi public schools and graduated from Delphi High School, she received her AB degree from the University of Chicago.   She taught at Cutler and Delphi, was instructor in history at Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Oh.; and was dean of women at Colorado Women's College, Bethel College in Hopkinsville, Ky., and Doane College, Doane, Neb.
  Mrs. Braden was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority; D.A.R.; Ebell Club; and was active in the Republican Women's Club in Long Beach, and was a member of the Baptist Church.
  Survivors include one brother, George E. Smock, Terre Haute and several nieces and nephews.  One brother, William C. Smock, lifelong resident of Delphi, is deceased.
  Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Delphi with her nephew, Evang. George E. Smock Jr. officiating assisted by Rev. William Heinrich.  Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Delphi.  The body will lie in state from noon Friday until time of the funeral.
  Jackson-Strawn Funeral Home, Delphi, will be in charge of arrangements.
