Fred Breeze - Class Of 1892

BRIEF ILLNESS FATAL TO F. J. BREEZE, WELL KNOWN IN STATE Rites are Wednesday for Delphi Scientist and Educator. Frederick J. Breeze, 70 years old, President of the Indiana Audubon Society and well known Science teacher of the State, died Sunday morning at 11:30 at the Home Hospital, Lafayette, following a brief illness of 2 days. He was stricken with a abnormal disorder on Friday. Mr. Breeze began teaching in 1901 in the Delphi High School and 4 years later became Superintendent of Remington Schools. While working on a Bachelors in Science Degree a Purdue University, he became assistant in the Forestry Department and later received his masters from Indiana University. The Delphi teacher left the field of education, eight years, to become educator of Science and Geographical publication of the American Book Company of New York. Mr. Breeze served 12 years as head of the Science Department at Ball State Teachers' Collage and later he taught Science in High School and Indiana University Extension Center in Fort Wayne. He retired in 1941 and came to Delphi to reside. Mr. Breeze was a member of the Board of Stewart of the Delphi Methodist church and the Delphi Rotary Club. He was born in Welchpool, Wales and settled in Delphi soon after coming to the United States with his parents in 1880. During his lifetime Mr. Breeze had been active in St. David's Society an organization for natives of Wales, and also was a member to Sigma Xi, honorary scientific fraternity; Phi Delta Kappa, honorary educational Society; the Indiana Academy of Science; and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Mary Josephine Breeze of Delphi; a son Joseph F. Breeze, advertising manager of the Indianapolis News; a sister, Mrs. Emert VanOstran of Stockwell and two grandsons. Funeral Services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Delphi Methodist Church, with Rev. Merlin Schwein officiating. The body will lay in state at the church for one hour before the service. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery with Grimm and Sons in charge of arrangement.
