Herbert Creek - Class Of 1894

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Eikenberry Funeral Home in Lafayette for Dr.Herbert LeSourd Creek, 86, who died at Dearborn, Michigan, where he had made his home with his son. He retired in 1950 from Purdue, where he had been English professor and head of the department for thirty years. Interment was in Yeoman Cemetery. Rev. Phillips Brooks Smith officiated. A native of Yeoman, he began his college career at DePauw University but received his A.B. and M.A. degrees from Butler University in 1905. He studied at the University of Chicago and received his Ph.D. degree at the University of Illinois in 1910. He was the author of many articles and several text books in his field, was a member of the Methodist Church, Delta Upsilon Fraternity and the Optimist Club. He traveled extensively in England and Europe and for many years his hobby was mountain climbing. He was married in 1901 to Anna Leone Fisher, who died in 1958. The only survivor is a son, Ronald; of Dearborn, Michigan. He was a frequent visitor of relatives and friends in Carroll County.
