Mrs. Clara Dern Landis, wife of Ira Landis, superintendent of schools at Riverside, California, died suddenly November 28, according to a telegram received by E. E. Landis of Flora, brother of Prof. Landis. Clara Dern was the daughter of Gilbert and Anna Rankin Dern, and spent her girlhood in Delphi and vicinity. She graduated from the Delphi High School in the class of 1896. Two years ago she visited her cousin, Mrs. Charles Gros, in Delphi, and her husband’s relatives over the county. She was a woman of delightful personality, and made friends with all whom she met. She and her husband were members of the Delphi Presbyterian church at one time. During their long residence in Riverside, they have been active in the Calvary Presbyterian church there. Mrs. Landis leaves her husband and two children, a son, Joseph who is with the FBI in San Francisco. and a daughter Betty, who was a WAVE in the last war, and is now with an advertising firm in New York City. Word has not been received as to the funeral arrangements, but it is known that burial will take place in Riverside.
