Florence Kerlin (Lathrope) - Class Of 1899

Mrs. Florence Kerlin Lathrope, 70, retired art and music teacher, passed away at 5 a.m. Monday at a nursing home in Rochester. Born in Delphi, December 28, 1879, she was a daughter of Hiram and Sarah Kerlin. She was a graduate of the Delphi high school, Indiana State Normal at Terre Haute and the John Herron Art Institute at Indianapolis. Mrs. Lathrope, a member of a prominent Delphi family, taught music and art in the schools Hillsboro, Kentland and Nobles- ville. For a number of years she resided at Winona Lake. Mrs. Lathrope was a member of the Presbyterian church, a charter member of Charles Carroll Chapter, D. A. R., and Rose Chapter, of the Star. She leaves a daughter Mrs. Fred Rankin, 1823 Medford Ave. Indiana- polis; a son, Tom H. Lathrope, at Sioux City, Iowa; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral rites will be held at 2:30 today at the Jackson funeral home. Rev. James Rankin will officiate. Burial will be made in the Masonic cemetery.
