A prominent Delphi woman was killed and her husband severely injured in a car-truck crash, southwest of Americus, Tuesday afternoon. Dead is Mrs. Eva Mohr Ives, wife of Myron Ives, retired Delphi merchant and land-owner. Mr. Ives, who suffered injuries in the crash which claimed his wife’s life, is reported “fair” at St. Elizabeth hospital. Mrs. Ives, prominent in church and social circles in Delphi, died two hours after being admitted to the hospital of a skull fracture, and internal injuries. Describing the accident as “bizarre”. State Police gave this version of the accident which claimed the life of Mrs. Ives. Traveling towards Lafayette on State Road 25, Mr. and Mrs. Ives were in their proper lane of traffic. Two Tippecanoe county highway trucks, driven by Dean Rayburn, 50. and Harry Ray Saubert 41, both of Lafayette were approaching. The trucks had been driven through water. which apparently affected the brakes of the vehicle driven by Rayburn While traveling towards Americus Rayburn attempted to pass the truck driven by Saubert When alongside the other truck, Rayburn saw the Delphi car approaching from the opposite direction. Rayburn applied his brakes in an attempt to again fall behind the other truck. But his right front brake locked, pulling his truck into the left side of the other. Rayburn’s truck turned over broadside in the road. Saubert's truck then wrent out of control and veered across the center line of the highway. When almost across the road, on the opposite side, it was struck on the right rear corner by the Ives car The Ives auto then veered directly into the overturned Rayburn truck. Saubert's truck, after the impact, rolled end over end into a cornfield. Both Mr. and Mrs. Ives were rushed to St. Elizabeth where Mrs. Ives died at 3:45 p.m. Born in Delphi, Nov. 19, 1883 the deceased was the daughter of Nathaniel and Jennie Barnett Mohr.
