Sarah Smith (Pratt) - Class Of 1872

Brief services were held at the grave in the Masonic cemetery in Delphi Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Sarah Smith Pratt, 88, of Indianapolis, beloved former resident of Delphi. Mrs. Pratt, native of Carroll county, was a well known newspaper writer and author of Indianapolis. Her, death occurred at her home in Indianapolis Thursday night. She was wife of the late William Dudley Pratt who was for several years editor of the Logansport Journal. Ms. Pratt lived in Delphi for many years and was active in civic and social affairs. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Smith, a pioneer Delphi family, and was a graduate of the Delphi high school. Survivors include five children: Mary, Marjorie, Arthur, Ryland and Dudley Pratt, all of Indianapolis. Mrs. Pratt assisted her husband in editing the Journal and was the author of “The Old Crop", a history of early days of Delphi, Logansport and Kokomo. She was a columnist for the Kokomo Journal after leaving Logansport and for ten years was editor of a Y.W.C.A. magazine. Funeral services were also held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning at the Christ church in Indianapolis for Mrs. Pratt. Blythe and Sons were in charge of arrangements here Saturday afternoon.
