Charles E. Milroy, well known and highly respected attorney of Chicago and former resident of Delphi, and who has relatives living in Carroll County, committed suicide at his home in Chicago Thursday afternoon. A friend of Mr. Milroy had gone to his home to ascertain why he had been absent from his office for several days and found the body in a closet suspended by a rope about his neck. The cause of Mr. Milroy taking his own life is not known unless it is that he had become despondent because of the death of his wife about two months ago, she collapsing and dying suddenly in a postal station in Chicago. Donald a son of Mr. Milroy, is a patient in the Speedway hospital in Chicago, suffering from the effects of service in the World War. The wife’s sudden death and the prolonged illness of the son are believed to have caused Mr. Milroy to become despondent to such an extent that he took his own life. Mr. Milroy formerly resided in Delphi, being admitted to the bar in this county, where he practiced law for several years in the Circuit Court. His offices for a time were in the second floor of the Clifford building, now occupied by the insurance firm of Holmes & Davidson. The remains were brought from Chicago to the home of his brother, Harry M. Milroy, from where the funeral services were held Sunday at 2 o’clock, being conducted by Rev. Dale LePlant of the Presbyterian church. Burial in the Morning Heights cemetery. Delphi Citizen April 14, 1927
