Minnie Bartoo - Class Of 1874

Miss Minnie Bartoo, late of Remington, Jasper County, Indiana, and who died there on March 3rd, 1933, aged 78 years, was a member of the second graduation class of the Delphi Public Schools. Following that, she taught for several years in the South Delphi school with marked success. During her school and teaching years in Delphi, she was a beloved member of the family of Mr. and Mrs. Lafayette E. McReynolds, and devoted to their children, Kate, (now Mrs. Martin A. Morrison,) Fred, both of Washington, D. C., and little Bernard who died. Later, upon her return to her home in Jasper County, she taught in its district schools until appointed to the primary department of the Remington Public Schools, which position she held 29 years. Her great love for little children led her to refuse all offers of promotion to higher grades, and durin g this time she not only taught over 2000 little children their A, B, C’s, but incidentally honor and truth. No wonder she died the most widely beloved resident of her home town. The last 15 years of her life were given to the operation of the Linotype at the Press Office, of Remmington, and without doubt she was the oldest woman operator of one of these machines in the United States. With Miss Bartoo's death passes an other teacher of widespread influence to her reward.
