Addie Wood (Eldridge)

Mrs. Adeline Mary (Wood) Eldridge, 85, life-long resident of Delphi and a member of one of this community’s oldest families, died. Sunday night at St. Elizabeth hospital, Lafayette, following an illness of more than a year. She had been hospitalized for the past 19 days. Born in Delphi on March 29, 1861, She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wood. She was graduated from the Delphi high school in the Class of 1880 and out of a class of 8 graduates, she was the surviving member. She was married to George R. Eldridge, a graduate of Harvard law school and a member of the old law firm of Gould and Eldridge. Surviving is a son, Harry W. Eldridge of East Orange, New Jersey; a brother, William H. Wood of Delphi. Another son, William A., died in 1918. Funeral rites were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the family residence on West Front street with the Rev. Earl K. Lashley, pastor of the Delphi Baptist church officiating. Burial was in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. Carter funeral home, Flora, in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Charles Wood, Robert Wood, Charles Wood, jr., Bill Wood, Joseph Ives and Carlyle Kirkpatrick of Delphi and John Wood of South Bend.
