John Mount - Class Of 1882

John Mount, 77, a lifelong resident of this community and highly respected by all who knew him, died at his home here at 7 o’clock, Sunday morning. He had been ill for several months, but his condition did not become serious until recently. Mr. Mount was the son of Daniel and Jane Mount. He was first engaged in the clothing business with his father. About 35 years ago with the late Charles Lane he bought an interest in a local hardware store. This firm was known as Mount & Lane Hardware. Later he bought the interest of Mr. Lane and the company is now known as the Mount & Son store with his son, Haughey, in partnership with him. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret Mount; one son, Haughey Mount, and three grandchildren. He was a member of no fraternal organizations but was highly active in local business circles and formerly was a member of the Delphi dramatic club. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the family residence in charge of Rev. Howard Jenkins. Burial was made In the Masonic cemetery. Rev. Howard Jenkins of the Delphi Christian church sang and read a beautiful tribute which had been written by Rev. William Grant Smith, and gave a short talk. The pall bearers were Reed Schermerhom, A. H. Brewer, W. B. Wason, James P. Wason, W. H. Bradshaw. Ed Smock, Yantls Wells and Myron Ives. Those who carried the flowers were Mrs. E. W. Bowen, Mrs. W. B. Wason, Mrs. W. T. Brackenridge, Mrs. Yantis Wells, Mrs. Myron Ives, Mrs. W. H. Bradshaw, and Mrs. Blanche Cartwright. The body had been taken to the Grimm & Sons funeral home and was there until Monday morning when it was, taken to the home. He was buried in the Masonic cemetery.
