Lizzie Stranathan (Askew) - Class Of 1885

Mrs. Elizabeth S. Askew widow of Frank D. Askew, died early Monday morning in a Chicago nursing home. She had been ill since May 14th. Mrs. Askew was born Elizabeth Jane Stranahan on February 5, 1866 in Prince William, Indiana, the daughter of William and Jane Shields Stranathan. Her father was one of the early settlers of Carroll county. The deed for land in Madison township, which he homesteaded is signed by Andrew Jackson. Mr. and Mrs. Askew lived on the farm for several years prior to Mr. Askew’s death in June of 1952. They had taken up residence in Delphi in 1942, coming here from Kansas City, Missouri, which was Mr. Askew’s home. Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Askew has made her home with her daughters, Mary and Ruth, in Chicago. Graveside services will be held in the Masonic cemetery in Delphi at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Rev. Kenneth B. Bowen of Erlanger, Ky., will conduct the services. Arrangements are in the charge of the Eikenberry funeral home.
