Harry Arnold - Class Of 1886

Harry Arnold well-known and highly-respected resident of Delphi, died Saturday morning at his home after a prolonged illness. He was born in Pittsburg, Oct 26,1865 and for forty years had been secretary of the Carroll County Abstract Company and secretary of the Delphi Building and Loan, until his retirement five years ago because of ill health. He had been an ardent Republican and had been one of the county workers. In his early days he had taught school at Pittsburg and was a member of the Pittsburg M. E. church and a member of the Delphi Oracle club. Deceased was the son of Catherine and George Arnold; a graduate of the Delphi high school and Terre Haute Normal. He was united in marriage to Mary Reed, September 4, 1880. He taught school for several years and then entered abstract work in 1902 in the office of Smith and Julien. He lived in this community all of his life and he operated the Abstract Company and the Building & Loan Association until his health broke about five years ago. He was known for his honesty and his exactitude, and for his willingness to help his friends. His loss was a great one for the community as he was admired, and respected by all. He is survived by his widow Mary Reed Arnold, a son Logan and daughter Mary Jo both of Chicago, and a sister Mrs. Minnie Roberts of Domeo, Michigan. The body was at the Blythe and Sons funeral home until Sunday when it was taken to the residence. Funeral services were held there Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. A. M. Martens of Marion officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Wilbur V. Day of the Delphi Methodist church and Rev. Harry B. Parker of the Delphi Presbyterian church. He was buried in the Masonic cemetery.
