Florence Mae Holmes (Hay) - Class Of 1886

Mrs. Florence Mae Hay, age 67, a former resident of this city, died at the home of her son, Fred Hay, at Connersville, Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock, after an illness of five weeks which followed an operation for removal of gallstones. Mrs. Hay resided on south Washington street in this city until a year ago when she moved to Connersville. She was the widow of William Hay, who died in 1908. Mrs. Hay was affiliated with the First Presbyterian church in this city. Survivors are two sons, John of this city, and Fred of Connersville; one daughter, Mrs. Martha Friend, a student in the nurses training school of the Bloomington hospital and now in Indianapolis completing her training, and three sisters, Mrs. Lou Schermerhorn of Indianapolis, Mrs. Matilda Holmes of North Manchester and Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson of Springfield, Ill. The body was brought to the Allen funeral home and funeral services will be held there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Dr. Charles B. Swartz of the First Presbyterian church will be in charge of the services. Interment will be at Brookston, Ind. Friends may call at the funeral home where the body lies in state.
