Ortho H. Scales, 94, of Indianapolis died Oct. 13, 1991, in Tioga Pines Living Center, Monticello. He was born in Pike County on Oct. 16, 1895, the son of John and Lillie Lorton Scales. His marriage in 1965 was to Phyllis Hawkins, who died in 1987. He moved to Delphi in 1916 where he taught history and mathmatics and became superintendent of the Delphi school at the age of 23. Surviving are two sons, a daughter, stepdaughter, eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, five step grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello. Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Flanner & Buchanon Broad Ripple Chapel, Indianapolis. Burial will be in the Washington Park North Mausoleum at Indianapolis.
