Mary Maxwell (McCormick) - Class Of 1931

Mary M. McCormick, 100, of Delphi, died Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 5:53 p.m. at IU Health in Lafayette.

Mary was born on Oct. 15, 1913 at home in Madison Township, Carroll County, Indiana. She was the second daughter of Henry R. and Anna M. (Sheets) Maxwell. She attended Radnor and New Hope schools, graduating from Delphi High School in 1931.

Mary married John B. McCormick on Feb. 21, 1935 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette, IN. He preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2008. She resided and farmed in Madison Township her whole life. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi, the Altar and Rosary Society, a 50+ year member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, American Legion Auxiliary, the Madison Township Home Demonstration Club and lifetime member of the Carroll County Country Club.

Mary enjoyed traveling the world with her husband John, and attending many Purdue events as members of the John Purdue Club. She enjoyed caring for her flowers, listening to books on tape and bird watching. She truly loved all of her family, especially adoring her grand and great-grand children as she watched them grow up.

Surviving include a son, J. Eric McCormick (wife: Colleen) of Delphi and a daughter, Susan E. Griese (husband: Bill) of Santa Claus, IN; 4 grandchildren: Eran McCormick (wife: Robynne), Brian Joseph Griese (Jennifer), Maggie Michael (husb: Greg), and Kelly Noel Griese; step-granddaughter: Stephanie Noether (husb: Adam); 4 great grandchildren: Jacob Michael, Jarrod McCormick, Amanda McCormick, Alex Michael; 5 step-great grandchildren; and 2 nieces: Patricia Clark (husb: George) and Sara Viney.

Mary was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Bernadine Eastwood.

Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. until the 7:00 p.m. service on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at Davidson Funeral Home. Father Bob Williams will officiate. A special Psi Iota Xi memorial service will be held prior to visitation at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Entombment will be at a later date at Zion Citizens Cemetery where she will lay to rest with her beloved John, who she has missed every day since his passing.

In lieu of flowers, it is strongly requested donations to the John & Mary McCormick Ag Scholarship Fund c/o Delphi Community School Corporation at 501 Armory Road, Delphi, IN 46923. They started this fund to provide support for students attending Ag School at Purdue University. They learned much in their early years of farming with help from Purdue, and want others to benefit also.
