Dean Cripe

Dean E. Cripe, 79, Delphi, depart cd this Ufe at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 1988, in St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center. He was one of the first residents at the facility, moving there in August of 1986. Born June 14,1909, in Tippecanoe County, he had lived all of his life in Tippecanoe and Carroll Counties. A 1928 graduate of Delphi High School, he was married,on October 20, 1929, to Cornelia Wolfson in Tippecanoe County. She preceded him in passing in 1983. Mr. and Mrs. Cripe owned and operated Cripe’s Wallpaper and Paint Store in Delphi, working as paperhangers in Carroll County for many years. Dean had also worked for the Delphi Post Office for 25 years retiring as a rural carrier in 1970. Mr. Cripe was a charter member, deacon, Sunday school teacher and the first person to serve as clerk of the Pittsburg Church of the Brethren, Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Frances Smiley Lohrman of Delphi, Mrs. Marvin (Delores) Carson of Hesperia, Michigan, and Mrs. Betty Walker of Stockwell; three sons, Robert Cripe of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Ronald Cripe of Elk Grove Village. Illinois, and Vernon Cripe of Delphi; two granddaughters who were raised in the home, Mrs. Teresa Reynolds Grissom of Zionsville and Mrs. Debra Reynolds Alfa of Noblesville; one brother, Robert H. Cripe of Lafayette; 19 other grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by his wife, a daughter, one brother, one sister, and two grandchildren. Services for Dean E. Cripe were held Saturday, June 25, 1988, in the Pittsburg Church of the Brethren, the Rev. John Nallcy officiating. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. The family suggests memorials to the Pittsburg Church of the Brethren or Emphysema Foundation.
