Doris Viney (Holverson) - Class Of 1943

Doris B. Holverson, 86, of Monticello died at 10:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare Center.

She was born Sept. 21, 1925, in Yeoman to the late Ruey and Frances Duncan Viney. She was a 1943 graduate of Delphi High School.

She married Donald H. Holverson on Dec. 25, 1945, in Monticello. He died Oct. 26, 1987.

Mrs. Holverson was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Monticello. She had worked as bookkeeper for Dye Lumber Co. for 161/2 years. She also worked in the White County recorder's office for 10 years and the White County Clerk's office from which retired after 13 years.

She was a member and past Worthy Matron of Crystal Chapter No. 165 Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Holverson was an avid golfer and was a two-time Women's Club Champion. She was a member and past president of Delta Theta Tau. She enjoyed playing bridge, shopping, fishing and was an avid fan of Purdue.

Surviving are a son, Donald Eric Holverson (wife: Renee) of Delphi; a brother, Robert Viney of Fort Wayne; and a sister, Mary Lou Leins (husband: John) of Fairfield, Calif.

Also surviving are 2 grandsons, Jeremy Moore of Lafayette and Nicholas Holverson of Delphi; 2 granddaughters, Jennifer (Larry) Adams of Medaryville and Heather Holverson of Delphi; 3 great-grandsons; and 2 great-granddaughters. Preceded in death by a brother, Jess Viney. She will always be remembered for her peanut brittle during the holidays.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home. Delta Theta Tau service will be at 6 p.m. followed by Presbyterian Prayer Circle at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Albaum of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview I.O.O.F. cemetery in rural Monticello. Memorials may be made to Monticello First Presbyterian Church.
