Don Sterrett - Class Of 1944

Donald L. Sterrett, 72, of Delphi, died at 9 p.m. Dec. 11, 1997, at Home Hospital, where he was admitted earlier that evening. Born Nov. 4, 1925, in Tippecanoe County, near Battle Ground, he was the son of Joseph Cass and Katherine Marie Pattengale Sterrett. His marriage was on May 1, 1948, in Delphi, to Barbara L. Thompson, who survives. He was a 1944 graduate of Delphi High School and an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European theater. He owned Sterrett’s Floor Service in Delphi for 46 years. Mr. Sterrett also had worked for the former Blythe Furniture Store, Fowler Furniture Store, and Eikenberry Furniture Store, all in Delphi. He attended Delphi United Methodist Church, was a life member of Delphi American Legion Post 75, and a member of VFW Post 9383 in Delphi. He was a Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed bird and squirrel watching. Also surviving are two daughters, Alicia D. Sterrett of Monticello and Jan M. Wallace of Delphi; five sons, Danny D. Sterrett, Edward J. Sterrett, Eric L. Sterrett, Darrell L. Sterrett, and Jon D. Sterrett, all of Delphi; three sisters, Thelma Hodges of Delphi, Dorothy Wilson of Monon, and Nina Sanderson of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were Monday at Horn Funeral Home with Rev. James Rankin officiating. Burial was in Pretty Prairie Cemetery, Battle Ground, with American Legion rites.
