Mary Yates (Schmitter) - Class Of 1943

Mary Mona Yates Schmitter, 87, of Delphi, died Saturday, Oct 20, 2012, at 3:15 pm at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. She had been in failing health and a resident there since Jan. of 2012. She was born Sept 10, 1925, in White County, Ind., to the late Lee and Eva Dalon Yates. Her marriage was to Joseph F. Schmitter in Delphi, on Sept. 22, 1943, and he preceded her in death on Dec 27, 2000.

She attended Delphi High School. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Monticello and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi. She worked for 31 years at the former Gerber-Globe Valve Corp-Delphi, retiring in 1988. She was an avid reader; enjoyed bowling, traveling and dearly loved her family and all of the times they spent together.

Surviving are two daughters, Peggy S. And Penny L. Schmitter, both of Delphi; two sisters, Wilma Potter, of Atlanta, Ga. and Wanda Best, of Delphi; two brothers, Wayne (Juanita) Yates, of Camden and Jim (Delores) Yates, of Delphi; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by 2 sons Bill & Jeff; an inf brother; 3 adult brothers.

Friends may call Tuesday from 11 a.m. until her memorial at 1pm at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi; Father Peter Vanderkolk officiating. Burial at Riverview Cemetery in Monticello.
