Marvin Austin - Class Of 1945

Birth: Apr. 13, 1926 Death: Nov. 26, 2010 Marvin J. Austin, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2010. He was born in Frankfort, IN, on April 13, 1926, to the late Harvey D. and Sarah S. Skiles Austin. He was raised in the Old German Baptist Church, attended Delphi, IN High School, and was inducted into the US Army at the Court House in Delphi, IN on Aug. 26, 1944. A proud member of Co. E, 378th Infantry Regiment of the 95th Infantry, he was one of the "Iron Men of Metz". Marvin was a life member of the VFW Post 9383 in Delphi, IN, a 50 year member I.B.E.W. Local 481, and a former member of West Morris St. Free Methodist Church in Indianapolis. He was the Boy Scout Master of Troop 401 for 20 years and drove one of the church's Sunday School buses for 18 years. Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Margaret Spence Austin, daughters Judith Ann Casey (husband Frank)and Jennie Bick (husband Jeff), grandsons Philip Karnes (wife Charity), David Karnes, Jeffery Bick (wife Stacey), and step grandson Benjamin Casey and great grandchildren Steven Karns, Tikvah Karnes and Maria Bick. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Katherine Ruth Croas, brothers Clarence & Lawrence Austin, daughter Cathy Austin, and son-in-law Thomas Karns. A service was held Sunday at the Free Methodist Church in Indianapolis. On Monday a graveside service with honors was held at the Middlefork Old German Baptist Cemetery near Rossville, IN.
