Hazel Stockrahm (Mullin)

Hazel E. Mullin, 97, formerly of rural Delphi, passed away at 7:15 pm Sunday at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. She was born October 1, 1916 in Washington, IN., she was the daughter of Professor Roy and Eunice Brown Stockrahm. She was a 1934 graduate of Bloomington High School and a 1939 Graduate of Indiana University majoring in elementary education. White attending IU, she paid most of her expenses by typing term papers and making 30 cents per hour grading tests for three professors in the Geography Dept.

On October 26, 1940 at Peru, IN, she secretly (so that she could remain an elementary teacher at Crawfordsville) married Attorney Lewis N. Mullin, he preceded her in death June 20, 2013. They lived on a Hoosier Homestead Farm, the birthplace of Lewis. They received the Carroll County Heritage Award in 2000.

She served as chairman of the Carroll County Red Cross Drive, the Heart Fund Drive, and volunteered on other money drivesfor many years. She taught school for twelve years, mosty in the Delphi School Corporation. She was active in theWednesday Forum, Rockfield Home Economics Club, Past Presidents Club and the Burrows Presbyterian Church. In 1986, she and her husband restored an 1874 one-room, red brick schoolhouse, now on the National Register of Historical Places. They hosted many class field trips. They were able to give several scholarships to senior students in the Delphi School Corporation.

She is survived by one son William Lewis (Norma) Mullin of rural Delphi and three grandchildren, Wade Davis (Kari) Mullin of Battle Ground, IN.; Garret Mullin Hess of Bloomington, IN.; and Sara Kiva (Brian) Stacey of Lafayette, IN.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Barbara June Hess.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 10 am at the Camden Cemetery, with Pastor Ken Smith of the Hickory Grove Church officiating. Memorial conributions may be made to Martin School House in care of The Friends of Carroll County Parks 817 E Columbia St. Delphi, IN. 46923.

Cree Funeral Home Camden, IN. assisted the family with arrangements.
