John Brown Love - Class Of 1924

The Rev. John Brown Love, 71k a retired Episcopal priest, died Thurs., Jan. 6,1977, In Sewanee, Tenn., where he resided. Born at Delphi, he was the son of Robert and Luella Brown Love. He was graduated from Delphi High School in 1924 and received his A.B. degree from Butler University in 1928. In 1932 he received his BD. at Yale Divinity School. He was ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church in 1935 and retired in 1972. He served as Vicar of Trinity Church, Connersville, from 1984- 1936; Rector of Trinity Church, Marshall, Mich., 1936; chaplain in the Army, including two years in New Guinea, 1942-1927; Rector of Christ Church, Indianapolis, 1948-1950; Rector of Christ Church, Middle Haddam, Conn.; post and district chaplain, American Legion, 1950-1966; and Rector of Christ Church, Pomfret, Conn., 1955-1972. During his tenure at Pomfret he also served six years as Archdeacon of New London, and one year as chaplain in the Rectory School, Pomfret. He was a former member of Delphi Christian Church. He was married to the former Mary Catherine Heddrick who survives with one son, Stephen Love, Boston, Mass.; one daughter, Mrs. Meridith Phillips of Brownsburg, and five grandchildren Graveside services were Sunday afternoon at the Masonic Cemetery in Delphi with the Rev. Wright R. Johnson of Logansport officiating. Jackson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
