Tammy Richter - Class Of 1980

Funeral services were Sunday afternoon at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Camden, for Tammy Elaine Richter, 14, of Rt. 3, Delphi, with Rev. Richard Recher officiating. Burial was in Camden Cemetery. Sullivan Funeral Home was in charge of Arrangements. She was riding her horse about 150 yards from her home at Rockfield, when for an unknown reason, she fell off the animal at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 1977. She was taken to Memorial Hospital, Logansport, where she was dead on arrival. Cass County Deputy Coroner Max Metzger said the cause of death was a broken neck. The horse had gotten away from the Richter property and gone to the neighbor’s where she had bought it. The victim and her mother drove to the neighbor’s home to return the horse. It was when the horse was being taken back that the accident happened. Miss Richter was the second Carroll County teenager to die in an equestrian accident in recent weeks. Born March 25,1963; at Mobile, Ala., Tammy was the daughter of Charles E. and Joyce E. Luedtke Richter. She would have been a freshman at Delphi Community High School this fall. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and the Pixie Little League girls team. The family had lived at Rockfield since September, 1976. Surviving with the parents are three brothers, Eric G., Trent W. and Tracy H., and a sister, Sandra E., all at home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Luedtke of Merrillville; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Richter of Gary and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cook of Merrillville; and great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ewald Noak of Merrillville.
