Bobby Lee Smith, 28, Rt. 2, Delphi, died Tues., June 24, 1980, near Baldwin, Mich., after being struck by a car while hitchhiking. The accident occurred on U.S. 10 in Sweetwater township in West Central Michigan at 6 p.m. According to Lake County, Mich., Sheriff’s Department, the accident is still under investigation. Officials said he was on his way to Alaska. Mr. Smith was born July 9, 1951, in Tennessee, to Melvin and Arlene Morris Smith. He attended Delphi schools and was a former taxi cab driver in Lafayette and served four years in the Marines. He is survived by several aunts and uncles, including Lester Smothers, Delphi, with whom he had resided. Final rites were Saturday morning at Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. Hugh Cochran officiating. Burial was in Morning Heights Cemetery with military graveside services.
